As the world went through extreme changes in the early 2020s, I found myself unmoored and experiencing a lot of internal chaos. It showed up in my work and was disquieting.

I turned to the earth for solace, walking miles in woods and prairie and along streams, studying trees and grasses, tending to the native prairie, vegetables and flower beds.

When finally returning to the studio, what I knew worked didn’t work. In order to be comfortable, I had to toss out all the old ways, pulling out materials I haven't used in decades or ever, studying artists I've never studied. It was like turning the dirt in a garden.

These new bodies of work are making visible where my attention has been. The flowers are gushing out as if eager to be created, the movements at last again emerging naturally. I'm following this energetic trail, wherever it might lead.
